Preparing for a motorcade we trundled into town the streets were swathed in ticker tape, the bunting had come down graffiti on the sun dial but time was in command scratch another line in the sand on the promenade our frozen hearts could thaw for just the hour the seabirds and the shoreline stopped the scene from turning sour a momentary respite from the nothingness we’d planned scratch another line in the sand the distant sound of slot machines fills every pregnant pause as I struggle to decipher your emotional semaphore sunshine turns to showers then a rainstorm is at hand scratch another line in the sand a line in the sand that the sea can’t touch a line that we’ve crossed with this dishevelled love in a fleapit bed and breakfast and the single rooms within we embrace the mediocre like a long lost ugly twin then silence in the food court, with guilt still on remand scratch another line in the sand I can’t believe that we’ve agreed to six more days of this in a room like my asylum but with a stronger stench of piss leave the wreck of our relationship in the crumbling bandstand and scratch another line in the sand misanthropy, misanthropy by the sea what’s lost in the hostility we cared not to keep misanthropy, misanthropy by the sea so this must be where empathy drowns in the shallow end of deep

West Wind 02:59
Where will you go? you’ll catch your death of cold the sound of seabirds a half-life away a sachet coffee and a bitter aftertaste you’re too well read to have commonsense the west wind whistling through this paper thin suit walking the tightrope in a dead man’s shoes the photograph you ripped to shreds was a masterpiece you fool (you were always a witness) you fool...

Well I’ve peered over the edge before I’ve watched the world below and today it seems like somewhere I should definitely go so I took a train ride to the coast my mission was implicit I knew that I could not return I only bought a single ticket seize the day own the moment don’t let fate be your opponent well it’s the strangest feeling knowing that when I disembark destiny’s mine for the final time so let the countdown start I pinned a conflicted farewell note to someone’s memorial bench but I’m not leaving these shoes, no, they cost me six weeks’ rent seize the day own the moment don’t let fate be your opponent death will do for now death will do for now tomorrow may hold sweeter sorrows but death will do for now the future is a fraying suture that I can do without death will do for now they told me time and time again the morning light might ease my pain but dear, the only way is down death will do for now why just decay your thunder stolen find a place deep in the ocean death will do for now death will do for now tomorrow may hold sweeter sorrows but death will do for now there is no chapter called ‘hereafter’ I’ve used up my word count death will do for now
